The Institute for Particle Physics Phenomenology is inviting applications from UK-based academic permanent staff to hold an IPPP Associateship 1 October 2012. Each Associateship will have a value of £4000 per annum and it is for one year, though it can be extended for the second year following a normal application procedure.
The Associateships are funded by Durham University, through the IPPP.
The aim of this programme is to support particle physics phenomenology research in the UK. The Associateship will be awarded to individuals or small teams to support their research programme. For example, the funds could be used for visits of the Associate to IPPP, IPPP staff/PDRA/student visits to the Associate’s institution, travel of Associate or their students to conferences, visitors to the Associate’s institution, etc.
The Associateships will be awarded on the basis of scientific excellence bearing in mind the need to balance activity in different areas of phenomenological research including beyond the standard model physics, electroweak and Higgs physics, flavour physics, model building, Monte Carlo simulations, neutrino physics, particle astrophysics and strong interactions. Applications are welcomed from both theorists and experimentalists. Priority will be given to projects which are either enabled, or significantly enhanced, by the award of the Associateship. It is expected that an Associateship will lead to enhanced interactions and enable new collaborations between the Associate, the Associate’s Institution and the IPPP. You are strongly encouraged to discuss your application with any members of the IPPP you plan to collaborate with before submission. Associates will be expected to contribute to the IPPP workshop programme.
We expect to award up to 10 Associateships for a one year period commencing 1 October 2012. Applicants should send a one page (one page, 11 point, PDF format) proposal electronically to IPPP Director Valya Khoze (valya.khoze@durham.ac.uk) with a copy to Linda Wilkinson (l.a.wilkinson@durham.ac.uk) by *30 August 2012*. The proposal should outline the proposed research programme and briefly describe how the funds will be used to
1. enhance the research of the Associate,
2. increase collaboration with the IPPP.
Applications will be reviewed by the IPPP Steering Committee in September 2012.
